Water
quality is important for health. Large number of water sources are
polluted with waste, pesticides etc. In every year, students are
loosing classes due to water born diseases. Hence the school was
decided to conduct water quality testing. We have received the
support of Jalanidhi project for conducting training on water quality
testing. After the training, our students were able to conduct water
quality test with the test kit.
Stage
1 - Training on testing the water samples
Student
leaders were given special training on testing the water samples
using a special kit provided by Jalanidhi. Programme was inaugurated
by panchayat president Smt. Shiny Santhosh. 25 students were trained.
Stage
2 - Testing the quality of water samples
The
trained student leaders tested the quality of water samples. The
measurement of iron, chloride, nitrate, fluoride and PH value were
calculated. 242 samples of drinking water were collected from 14
wards of Poonjar Thekkekara Panchayat.
Stage 3 - Publishing the result (Activity - 22)
The test result of all the samples was handed over to the Jalanidhi Project Commissioner Smt. Geetha S Nair and to the Panchayat. The result was published in the Jalasree club blog.

Stage
4 - Distribution of pamphlets
With
the support of Jalanidhi, leaflets
about the water
quality problems
and their
solutions were distributed among
the students and all the houses
in
the Panchayat.
Awareness
generated
After
reading the water quality test result and studying the pamphlets, the
general public became aware about the water quality problems and
their solutions.
